Challenge

The modern city dweller spends a lot of energy on work every day, and so his or her energy for life is reduced to a minimum, often not noticing changes at home or forgetting small things such as what vegetables and fruit are in the fridge, or whether the medication he or she keeps at home is effective. This can lead to a lot of unnecessary waste or trouble due to the lack of information.

 · How can users manage time-sensitive items in their homes with little effort?

 · How can users use what they already have in a more appropriate and secure way?

Research

Research

By recording and observing the items and foods in my own home, I have found that fruits and medications have a relatively short expiry date and each has appropriate storage conditions that are likely to cause storage problems or use problems when the user takes them home.

Interview

Interview

After 2 rounds of open structured interviews with young working people, I found that most of the keywords that resonated with the conversations revolved around expiry dates, medication use, and food storage.

After compiling all the key information from the research, I created an affinity diagram to analyse the key issues and ways to solve them, and merged ideas based on the mind map.

Reflections

Reflections

· Details can drive product creativity

There are actually many small things around us that can go on to trigger a design that may require us to break out of a lot of our otherwise fixed thinking to recreate it. Even though the changes may end up being small, I always have to maintain a willingness to innovate to think things through.

 · Be more developmental in my thinking

I had shared this project of my own in a communication and one of the teachers at the time gave me a very visionary suggestion: you could try to incorporate the IoT theory. This immediately opened my mind because now the concept of smart home technology interconnection is applied by many manufacturers.
